When farmers become reliant on the products they use to provide the world with food, they become lifetime customers of those products. This is reminiscent of the Big Pharma model that creates a disastrous cycle of long-term dependence, profiting chemical manufacturers enormously. When landowners can no longer sustain the high cost of continuing the normal growth processes, they are forced to turn the keys over to a behemoth industry and walk away from multi-generational farms.
