Description of this webinar: ‘WHO has recently published a technical document on “Attributes and principles of genomic data-sharing platforms supporting surveillance of pathogens with epidemic and pandemic potential”. It describes attributes and delineates operational principles of pathogen genomic data-sharing platforms (PGDSPs) to support effective, timely and equitable sharing and access to genomic data from pathogens with epidemic and pandemic potential.’

Objective: ‘This webinar will introduce the document’s key concepts and highlight its utility to inform data-sharing practices for data generators, platform development, and funding decisions. Participants will have an expanded understanding of the desirable features of PGDSPs. Speakers will present their experience and perspectives on pathogen data-sharing and how this document can guide work on this space.’

Tentative Agenda and Speakers:

  1. Opening remarks: Importance of data-sharing
  • Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO HQ
  1. Overview of the technical document
  • Lorenzo Subissi and Silvia Argimón, WHO HQ and WHO Berlin Hub
  1. Panel discussion: How the PGDSP document can inform data-sharing practices at a National Public Health Agency, platform development, and funding steering:
  • Eddy Kinganda Lusamaki, Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale, DRC
  • Torsten Semmler, Robert Koch Institute, Germany
  • Guy Cochrane, Global Biodata Coalition
  • Torsten Semmler, Robert Koch Institute
