WHO WATCH: Virtual Press Conference on the Mpox Emergency Committee Meeting

‘The first meeting of the Emergency Committee (EC) was convened on Wednesday, 14 August 2024, from 12:00 pm CEST by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) regarding the upsurge of mpox 2024.
‘Background: The EC provides its views to the WHO Director-General on whether the event constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). In the event of a PHEIC, the EC advises on the temporary recommendations proposed by the WHO Director-General on how to better prevent and reduce the spread of the disease and manage the global public health response. The Director-General decides whether to accept the EC's advice.
